A New Homesteaders Life
Adding in some Flowers
So I just love flowers. I asked Mr. Britches if we could add some flower boxes to the outside “Den”. The “Den” is actually going to be our outside work room for crafting.
It is a screened in room that has a fireplace in it. Great for those chilly nights, that happens here at the lake. This room has been a great sanctuary for me during the very hot and humid days here in Tennessee. I am so not used to the Humidity, having spent most of my years in the Southwest. Phew sometimes it has been downright miserable, but we will prevail.
My plan is to have flower boxes at the front entrance, along the front and back sides and I hope to put some along the railing on the back deck. A little at a time and this will be so wonderful to sit and enjoy…later.
Well here are the front boxes and the front side done. The back will have to wait as I want it to be done I want a very large bed and dirt is expensive, who’da thunk.
On each side of the walkway entrance I put in a Monrovia plant on both sides. The hummers really love the purple flowers, they stick there bill in and shake it around. It’s very comical. I plan on collecting the seeds and trying some “Winter Sowing” (more on that later) with them. I also added white mums and pansies to each box. I added a small plastic stump that I saved from my aquarium, for the frogs. I heard they like stuff like that.
the front side I put two boxes instead of one long one. I have plans on making a fountain for the middle. In this one I added my fern that I split up and put them on the ends of each box. In the middle I put red hibiscus “Luna”. The flowers are huge. At the other end I put the most beautiful white and lavender mum. I had left over pansies and put them in front of the hibiscus.
I also had Mr. Britches hang my house ivies (golden pothos) on the front side. My lonely little geranium was hung in the middle of the windows. Next year I would like to add a shelf and get four more geraniums to display there.
I was so excited to find a yellow rose bush on 50% sale. I convinced Mr. Britches I just couldn’t live without it. It was planted where it would get the most sunlight. It is going to be just lovely.
When the time comes this fall I want to add some bulbs for some spring time color.
Well got to go wash my hands and get cleaned up for dinner, later folks.
